ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday gave the nod to the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the district administration of Islamabad to remove lawyers’ chambers as well as courtrooms illegally constructed on the football ground in F-8 within two months.
Meanwhile, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) suspended the licences of 21 lawyers who stormed into the Chief Justice Block on Feb 8 after the CDA demolished their illegal chambers.
A three-member bench of the Supreme Court, comprising Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed, Justice Ijazul Ahsan and Justice Sayyed Mazhar Ali Akbar Naqvi, dismissed an appeal filed by the Islamabad Bar Association (IBA) against the Feb 16 decision of the IHC to remove the illegal constructions. ....

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday ordered suspension of the licences of 21 lawyers for ransacking the chamber of Chief Justice Athar Minallah during a protest against the demolition of their alleged illegal chambers at the Islamabad District Courts last month.
A three-member bench presided by Chief Justice Athar Minallah heard the case. We are of the opinion that the 21 respondents arrayed in the complaint in hand had committed grave acts of indiscipline and misconduct on the 8th of February, 2021, an order of IHC issued today read. ....

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday issued contempt of court notices to 17 lawyers including Islamabad Bar Council member Naseer Kayani and candidates vying for top position of the Islamabad High Court Bar Association (IHCBA) election scheduled to be held on Feb 27.
The recipient of the contempt of court notices included IHCBA’s presidential candidate Raja Zahid, candidate for secretary Tasadduq Hanif and joint secretary’s candidate Yasmin Sindu.

Punjab bar, LHCBA back capital lawyers over issue of demolition - Pakistan

LAHORE: The Punjab Bar Council (PbBC) and Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) on Tuesday expressed support for the stance of Islamabad’s lawyers protesting against the demolition of their chambers by the capital administration.
In separate statements issued on behalf of PbBC vice chairman Sardar Abdul Basit, LHCBA president Tahir Nasaraullah Warraich and other office-bearers, the two bodies said the chambers of the lawyers bulldozed in Islamabad had been built five years ago. They demanded the government reconstruct the demolished chambers of the lawyers and take action against the officials of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) involved in the ‘illegal’ operation. ....

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) witnessed a dark day on Monday after it was stormed and damaged by angry lawyers protesting the demolition of their chambers by the city’s civic authority.
The violent lawyers laid siege to the courtroom and the chamber of IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah, virtually keeping him hostage for about three hours. They barged into the offices of the secretary to the IHC chief justice and his auxiliary staff, broke windows and even doors of the Chief Justice Block.
