Injuries reported in multi-vehicle crash involving wrong-way driver on Route 28 near Aspinwall

At least one person was taken to the hospital after a wrong-way crash on Route 28 late Wednesday night, according to Allegheny County 911.
The crash on northbound Route 28 at the Highland Park Bridge happened shortly before 11 p.m.
According to state police, a pickup was traveling south in the northbound lanes from the Fox Chapel exit to the Etna exit.
The pickup hit multiple vehicles while traveling the wrong way on the highway, and continued to travel south in the northbound lanes before getting off Route 28 at the Etna onramp. ....

Iron Born Pizza's Detroit-style slices find a home in Pittsburgh


Thick-crusted Detroit-style pizzas continue to gain popularity in the Steel City.
One might say they’re Iron Born.
Kittanning native Pete Tolman knew he had to bring the doughy slices to Western Pennsylvania the first time he tried them, on a trip not to the Motor City but to Telluride, Colo.
Tolman attended culinary school at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, worked in several fine dining restaurants and spent years managing prepared foods for Giant Eagle. “I felt I had the experience and passion to open my own place,” he said.
He launched Iron Born Pizza in 2017 in the Strip District, starting out in Smallman Galley the restaurant incubator and moving to his own location on Smallman Street in late-2019. In between, he opened a takeout shop in Millvale. ....

Body found in Allegheny River in Shaler identified

Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified a body that was recovered from the Allegheny River on Wednesday morning.
Officials said it was David Lesser, 54, of Shaler.
Allegheny County homicide detectives were notified shortly before 8:30 a.m. of a body in the river near Pine Creek.
Lt. Venerando Costa said Wednesday evening that there were “no obvious signs of trauma,” and that investigators are awaiting autopsy results to determine the cause and manner of death. He said there were no obvious signs of foul play. He wasn’t sure if Lesser had been reported missing. ....
