Lake Hills Fire Department rolls out advanced life support ambulance


ST. JOHN TOWNSHIP — The Lake Hills Fire Department now has an advanced life support ambulance in its arsenal.
St. John Township residents will now have access to the same care as surrounding communities, as the fire department moved from a basic to an advanced life support ambulance July 1, Fire Chief Shane Adams said in a news release.
Join Tristan DeFord, Jami Rieck, and Nancy Zakutanksky on a shift working for Superior Ambulance in Merrillville.
Ambulance service first began in the department in 1993 and was staffed by volunteer firefighters and emergency medical technicians (EMTs), Adams said.
Ten years later in 2013, two EMTs began staffing the ambulance during the day Monday through Friday, Adams said. ....

First Career Criminal sentenced in Buchanan County for burglary, assault

Buchanan County Prosecuting Attorney Ron Holliday announced the first sentencing of a ‘Career Criminal’ following the establishment of a Career Criminal Prosecution Program within his office.
51-year-old Shane Adams is the first individual in Buchanan County to be charged under this program as a career criminal.
Adams was charged with with first-degree burglary, first-degree assault and possession of meth – all connected to an alleged crime in March 2019.
Adams was found guilty of both first-degree burglary and assault in April. He was then sentenced on June 14th to 20 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections on each count to run concurrently to each other. ....

Can New Hampshire spend $200 million in federal money to keep people in their homes when it wasn’t able to spend $20 million last year for the same purpose?
That’s the question being asked by state officials, housing activists, tenants and landlords while they wait – after the state’s Housing Relief Program ended on Dec. 18 – for the new federal Emergency Rental Assistance program to begin.
And no one really knows the answer.
