New Delhi, Jan 12 : The Supreme Court on Tuesday stayed the implementation of the three controversial farm laws and formed a four-member committee to take over negotiations with the farmers on the impact of these laws.
On Monday, the top court had indicated that it may appoint a retired Chief Justice on the committee and asked the parties involved in the matter to suggest few names. Chief Justice S.A. Bobde disclosed that he had asked former Chief Justice P. Sathasivam but he was reluctant since he doesn t understand Hindi. Former Chief Justice R.M. Lodha s name was also suggested during the hearing. ....

Members of the protesting farmers unions have refused to cooperate with the Supreme Court s committee to discuss the farm laws and have declared that their protests will continue.
ANI, Bhartiya Kisan Union (R) chief Balbir Singh Rajewal has alleged that the SC mandated committee is pro-government and has been justifying the new farm laws. He also added that the unions will not be appearing before the committee.
Krantikari Kisan Union chief Darshan Pal also reiterated that they have made it clear that they will not be accepting any committee formed by Supreme Court for mediation. ....

As the deadlock between farmers bodies and PM Narendra Modi-led Union government continues over the three contentious farm laws, Shetkari Sanghatan (SS) has requested the Centre not to withdraw the agricultural reform laws.
Instead, the Sharad Joshi-founded organisation has asked the central government to make amendments to the laws to address the demands made by the farmers. Mentioning the reason for widespread misinformation and protests, SS chief Anil Ghanwat, however, mentioned that the Union government did not discuss the farm laws in detail with the stakeholders before introducing them. ....

As farmers protest entered the third week, Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar on Sunday accused Opposition parties of running a propaganda against the new farm laws and asserted that these legislations may cause difficulty for some in the short term but will be beneficial to farmers in the long run.
Mr Tomar, who is leading negotiations with the 40 protesting farmer unions to break the deadlock, was addressing a delegation of over 100 farmers from Uttarakhand who came to extend their support to the laws.
Minister of State for Agriculture Kailash Choudhary and Uttarakhand Education Minister Arvind Pandey were present in the meeting. ....
