Desert Botanical Garden New Outdoor Art Several new outdoor artworks are being installed around metro Phoenix this month. Tempe Public Art commissioned Roy Wasson Valle to create a piece on a clear wall at the Tempe Center for the Arts sculpture garden, which will be visible from The Gallery at TCA and the path running along Tempe Town Lake. An installation titled Water will be on view at Desert Botanical Garden starting on February 23. Created by Natasha Lisitsa and Daniel Schultz of Waterlily Pond Studio, the piece spans 100 feet and was made with materials that include 8,000 colored wooden dowels and 2,000 red flowering blooms. ....

The Governor s Arts Awards will be celebrated at locations throughout the state. Details will be announced. The Shelley Award is named for former Arizona Commission on the Arts Executive Director Shelley Cohn, who served in that role for 21 years before retiring in 2005. The Shelley Award has been presented since 2006 to an Arizona individual who has advanced Arizona arts and culture through strategic and innovative work to create or support public policy beneficial to the arts. ....
Who can be nominated for the awards? Nominees in all categories must be residents of Arizona, a business operating in and for the benefit of Arizona, a school or a community organization. Since the first awards show in 1981, more than 200 artists, individuals, arts and cultural organizations, educators and businesses have received Governor’s Arts Awards, according to a press release. In October, 17 recipients received the accolade including artists Arlene Minsukin of Prescott, Rhonda Urdang of Flagstaff, Jose Dorame of Yuma, Emilia Quiahuitl Villegas of Tucson and Chris Hamby of Peoria. Arts organization winners included Phoenix Center for the Arts, Sonoran Arts League, Yavapai-Apache Artist Guild, Yuma Arts Center and Border Arts Corridor. ....
