Walla Walla Valley Wine Month Pt 3
Tuesday Apr 13th, 2021 With today’s Fruit Grower Report, I’m Bob Larson. April is here and so is the second annual edition of Walla Walla Valley Wine Month, a month of activities designed to bring Walla Walla Valley wines to you in many different ways, both live and online.
But why April?
I asked Shelby Pryor, with the Walla Walla Valley Wine Alliance, that very question …
PRYOR … “So when we were like, you know, we want a month to celebrate and really dig in to, you know, what makes Walla Walla Valley wine so special. And so, when we were looking at the calendar, April just made sense to us because March is Taste Washington Wine Month and May is Oregon Wine Month.”

WALLA WALLA, WA (Dec. 16, 2020) – The 10th Annual Barrel Full of Money fundraiser raised a record amount once again this holiday season, despite challenges faced in light of the pandemic, as nearly 50 Walla Walla Valley wineries, area businesses and nonprofit organizations teamed up to raise a significant amount of money for the Blue Mountain Action Council (BMAC) Food Bank.
Barrel Full of Money is a joint effort by BMAC, the Walla Walla Valley Wine Alliance, and other local business sponsors to raise funds in support of local food pantries. Alaska Airlines, Baker Boyer Bank, Columbia REA, Dunham Cellars, Grocery Outlet, Hayden Homes, Seguin Moreau, The Thief Fine Wine & Beer, TMACS, the Walla Walla Union-Bulletin and Walla Walla Valley Wine Alliance member wineries came together this year to donate time, money and resources to the cause. The campaign resulted in a record-breaking $64,737.47 rai
For the sixth year in a row, the Barrel Full of Money fundraiser outpaced itself in giving, despite major limitations the pandemic has caused this year.
The annual charity event, used as a fundraiser for the Blue Mountain Action Council Food Bank, is put on by the Walla Walla Valley Wine Alliance annually in partnership with local businesses and about 50 of its member wineries.
In a year where the regional food bank saw unprecedented numbers of people coming to relieve food insecurity, the campaign resulted in a record-breaking $64,737.47
This is the tenth year of the event, begun in the 2011 holiday season.
