SIDNEY The Sidney City Council will hold a special meeting on Monday, May 10, 2021, at 5 p.m. The meeting will be held by a hybrid method, with board members in attendance in council chambers and others welcome to join virtually.
The purpose of the meeting is for City Council to hold an executive session to consider the employment of a public official/employee.

Virtual capital tour continues

SIDNEY The virtual capital tour of improvements in the city of Sidney continued Monday evening during the Sidney City Council workshop session.
The update on the city’s streets and water projects, the Shelby Public Transit and Sidney City Airport was given by Public Works Director Jon Crusey.
Shelby Public Transit will purchase two new buses for a total cost $130,044, and one new accessible van for a total cost $67,277.
Sidney City Airport will begin the construction of a parallel taxiway in 2021 and is expected to be completed in 2023. The earthwork cost for 2021 is $400,000; the drainage work in 2022 will cost $250,000; and the paving in 2023 will cost $850,000.
Council authorizes Shelby Public Transit contracts

SIDNEY Shelby Public Transit contracts for federal and state grant funding and the Elderly and Disabled Fare Assistance Program were authorized Monday evening during Sidney City Council’s teleconference meeting.
Details of the two resolutions pertaining to the Shelby Public Transit include the following:
• The authorization of the annual application to the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) for 2022 operating and capital grant funding, and also to authorize City Manager Mark Cundiff to execute a contract with ODOT upon the approval of the grant application. A federal operating grant of $475,270, and a state operating grant $115,000 is being requested. In capital spending, the total grant request is $237,500. This is for federal and state maintenance and two vehicle replacements.

City OKs first step in sidewalk program

SIDNEY The first step in proceeding with the city of Sidney’s 2021 sidewalk program was approved by the Sidney City Council during its Monday night teleconference meeting.
City Council adopted a resolution to declare the necessity of the construction and repair of certain sidewalks in Sidney and requiring for abutting property owners to repair the same.
Randy Magoto, engineering manager, told council members a “resolution of necessity” is the first step in the program requiring property owners to make the repairs. He said courtesy letters have been sent to each of these property owners of the properties in need of repair to alert them of the pending sidewalk repairs.
