View Comments MANSFIELD - John Mack Jr. could face the death penalty if convicted on aggravated murder charges in the death of his ex-girlfriend, Melinda Kay Davis. Mack was indicted on 17 counts Wednesday including aggravated murder, kidnapping, and tampering with evidence. Davis, 33, of Shelby, was reported missing Feb. 25 and her body was found in the trunk of her car March 14 in an apartment parking lot on the western edge of Columbus. A Richland County grand jury met in a special session this month and found that Davis death occurred while the offender was committing, attempting to commit, or fleeing immediately after committing or attempting to commit kidnapping and either the offender was the principal offender in the commission of the aggravated murder or, if not the principal offender, committed the aggravated murder with prior calculation and design. ....
Students are set to perform the 2012 version of the play Godspell. Conceived and originally directed by John-Michael Tebelak with music and new lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and originally produced on the New York stage by Edgar Lansbury, Stuart Duncan, and Joseph Beruh, the play is based on the Gospel of Matthew. The show follows the character of Jesus as he tells the parables and teaches the lessons of the Gospels in a modern setting. Directed by Dan Treharne, Godspell will run Friday and Saturday April 30 - May 1 and May 7 - 8 at 7 p.m. as well as on May 2 and May 9, at 3 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for students and senior citizens at the door. ....
Within a few minutes of walking in the door at Shelby High School, senior Ian Greene encountered three people he hadn t seen at school in over a year. I mean, I ve seen them on sports teams and stuff, but it was still cool to be in the same classroom with them, said Greene. Monday marked the first day of four-day-a-week instruction for middle and high school students around Cleveland County since COVID-19 changed schools more than a year ago. The county Board of Education voted in March to return all 6th- through 12th-grade students back to school for face-to-face instruction for four days a week starting on Monday.
