A 41-year-old man will serve at least 30 years in state prison in connection with the 2020 deaths of his parents, according to the Del Norte County District Attorney.
Casey Rhyn Potter pleaded guilty on Jan. 21 to two counts of second-degree murder for the deaths of 77-year-old Brian Gilbert Potter and 71-year-old Sherrie Lynn Potter, both of Crescent City, Del Norte County DA Katherine Micks told the

Crescent City man found guilty of murdering parents


A Crescent City man could spend the rest of his life in prison after being convicted of killing his parents last week.
Casey Rhyn Potter, 41, was found guilty of murder of 2 people and was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison.
Potter was convicted of killing his parents, 77-year-old Brian Gilbert Potter and 71-year-old Sherrie Lynn Potter at their Crescent City home. Their bodies were found Feb. 16, 2020, and Casey Potter was arrested two days later at a bus stop in Crescent City. At the time of his arrest, he was in possession of a loaded firearm.
A few months after his arrest, Potter’s attorney claimed he was not mentally competent to assist his defense. In the filing, the attorney said Potter referred to his parents as “clones and trespassers.” ....
