Cheyenne Depot Museum Hosting May Rail Event This Weekend This weekend, May 15th and 16th, the Cheyenne Depot Museum is hosting the May Rail Event. The event is also known as Depot Days . Over the course of the weekend, guests can tour the museum, check out the Sherman Hill Train Show, and listen to guest speakers, among other featured aspects of the event. The itinerary for the Depot events kick off on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with an Ed Dickens speaking event. You can also checkout the Cheyenne Depot Museum, the Layout Upstairs in the Museum, the Glass Observation Room at the Depot, the Slick X-Line Train Display that will be available in the Depot Lobby (that will be available starting Friday, May 14th), and the 1907 Cagney Train Ride on the Depot Plaza. Food vendors will be available as well. ....

A 1986 cookbook recipe from St. Anthony Catholic School in southside Des Moines offers an early glimpse of the culinary ambitions of a pair of students who have gone on to become metro dining entrepreneurs. A Collection of Favorite Recipes from the students includes contributions from Tony Lemmo, who is now owner of Aposto at The Scala House in Sherman Hill, and Emily Gross, who along with her sister Andrea Williams operates catering service Taste to Go and its signature event space, Curate, in the East Village. Tom Sacco of Des Moines discovered the cookbook in a pile at a St. Vincent de Paul thrift store. Sacco said he looked through the book because he had previously coached track and field at the school and wanted to see if there were any familiar names. After recognizing the names of local dining professionals, Sacco said he d thought he d share the story with others, including the Des Moines Register. ....

I would be surprised if the Union Pacific can even source that oil today; those run-bys are more likely to be fuelled by rail diesel oil. the Big Boys were originally intended to pull full consists up the grade over the Wasatch Mountains, without having to stop to couple on any helper locomotives. But I think they ended up in passenger service for a decade, then relegated to hauls on the flat instead of those heavy grades. I am not a rail aficionado, so my memory is a bit hazy on that. ....
