KARACHI: An accountability court on Thursday sentenced a private person to 10-year imprisonment for illegally getting state land worth Rs430 million registered in the name of a dead person, and selling it to two parties. Muhammad Ilyas was found guilty of getting documents carrying fictitious entries in respect of 21.20 acres of land in Karachi in connivance with two revenue officials and selling it to two persons, Muhammad Arif Rogatia and Khursheed Alam. On Thursday, Accountability Court-III Judge Dr Sher Bano Karim pronounced her verdict, which was reserved after recording evidence and final arguments from both sides. She also slapped a fine of Rs430 million on the convict. On default, he would have to undergo an additional two-year imprisonment. ....
Man sentenced to 10 years for land fraud Karachi May 21, 2021 An accountability court on Thursday sentenced a man to 10 years in prison for committing a fraud of Rs430 million by registering government land in the name of two dead persons and then selling it. The accountability court-III judge Dr Sher Bano Karim convincted the accused, Muhammad Ilyas, for the offence and also slapped a fine of Rs430 million to recover the money. According to the prosecution, Ilyas prepared fictitious entries in documents for an over-21-acre piece of land in Karachi in connivance with two revenue officials and sold it to private persons, Arif Rogatia and Khursheed Alam. ....

Online/File KARACHI: An accountability court on Thursday issued notices to Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani and his family members on an application filed by the National Accountability Bureau seeking freezing of their moveable and immovable properties. Mr Durrani, a senior leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party, was arrested by NAB in an Islamabad hotel on Feb 20, 2020 in connection with an investigation into his movable and immovable assets allegedly amassed beyond his known sources of income, making 352 illegal appointments, embezzlement of public funds in the construction of MPAs Hostel and the New Sindh Assembly Building, as well as appointment of project directors for these schemes. ....
