TWO friends who were both diagnosed with cancer and lost their spouses to terminal illnesses took on a gruelling challenge to support a charity. Paula Dack, 71, and Rod Beechey, 75, walked more than 52 miles and raised £1,450 for Prospect Hospice. The pals, both from Cricklade, began walking together when they formed a bubble during the first lockdown of Covid-19 pandemic. Paula said: “Before lockdown I walked half a mile or three quarters of a mile locally. During the pandemic Rod and I started walking together. At first it was just round the block and then it became a couple of miles. “We kept challenging ourselves to go further and sometimes we walked up to six miles a day. We then thought to ourselves we should do a walk for charity.” ....

MDBYD Festival organiser Ed Dyer, Chairman of South Swindon Parish Council Chris Watts, Councillor Neil Hopkins, Councillor Nadine Watts and Gastech s Aidan Watts SWINDON Shuffle co-organiser Ed Dyer has teamed up with South Swindon Parish Council for a music festival at Town Gardens bowl next month for Prospect Hospice. The My Dad’s Bigger than Your Dad festival will run on 28 August from midday until 10pm and is a festival dedicated to ex-landlord at The Victoria Dave Young, who passed away in June at Prospect Hospice. Dave’s former band The Boys from County Hell will be headlining the lineup and Ed has spoken about Dave’s legacy alongside how the festival came about. ....

Sunday’s game - which ended 7-7 and saw the blue team reign victorious on penalties - was held at the County Ground and took place to raise funds for the charity which was chosen by Alan McLoughlin’s family. The match was extremely well supported with a host of former players returning to take part, featuring alongside former and current club staff, and those who contribute to the Loathed Strangers podcast. ....
Coun Julia Bishop presented the charity with a cheque for £5,360. She said: This charity is close to my heart and I m extremely happy to support them. I would like to mention the Highworth Masonic Lodge for their generous donation of £1,000. It s a wonderful organisation that meet from September to April and always welcome new members. I would like to thank the wonderful people of Highworth for their support. Although this is a tremendous amount of money, I was sad to have to cancel four fundraising events due to Covid-19 and I hope to have some in 2021.
