New controversy over $4M Maryvale railway reserve

An innovative plan from the next generation of Southern Downs leaders could finally bring a long-awaited rideshare service to the region. The 2020 Southern Downs Regional Youth Council held their final meeting in February, where they pitched a Warwick/Stanthorpe rideshare app. Minutes from the discussion indicated the young leaders believed such a service would provide “sustainable, safe, and risk-free transportation for youth”, which would include safety measures such as a GPS tracking system. The potential project was strongly endorsed by Mayor Vic Pennisi, who said a rideshare app would be a modern solution to an ongoing issue for the region’s young population.

SLAP IN FACE: Beef heavyweights slam SDRC on saleyards

Industry heavyweights have slammed the decision to upgrade the existing Warwick Saleyards site rather than relocate the facility as a slap in the face that could set the region s agricultural sector back decades. Southern Downs councillors voted for plans for the major redevelopment and enhancement of the existing facility , which at $7.5 million would prove less extensive and cost half as much as either of the two masterplanned options. Designed to act as a communication point between SDRC and users of the Warwick facility, the Saleyards Advisory Committee spent years engaging with producers, agents, and other Queensland saleyards to reach the best solution.
