Memorial Day target date for playground, restrooms at Veterans Memorial

The Central Texas Veterans Memorial is targeting Memorial Day for the dedication of a new playground and restroom facility at the site, located at 2500 Morris Sheppard Drive in Brownwood.
Harold Stieber, Dennis Rumfeld, and Julie Hahn – representing the Central Texas Veterans Memorial – were interviewed by KOXE radio Friday morning discussing the project.
“We’re shooting for Memorial Day, and that’s kind of aggressive, but you have to start somewhere,” Rumfeld said.
The idea for the Michael Craig Ledsome Memorial Playground, as it will be called, came following discussions with Gold Star families regarding the military operations that followed the Sept. 11, 2001 attack on the United States – Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan from Oct. 7, 2001 to Dec. 31, 2014 and Operation Iraqi Freedom from March 20, 2003 to Dec. 18, 2011. ....

Local Citizens Speak Out Against Zoning Change Request

The Brownwood City Council met Tuesday morning, January 26. Much of the morning was spent in a Public Hearing and discussion concerning a zoning change request.
The public hearing was held on a request to change zoning at 2409 Austin Avenue to allow for construction of a 12-unit apartment complex. Planning and Zoning approved the request January 7
th after no opposition was received.
Tuesday morning, however, homeowners who live near 2409 Austin Avenue came in person or by telephone to oppose construction of a 12 unit apartment complex. Dacz Arcaya of Leander, Texas, officer of Arcaya Properties,
(photo below) presented his plan to renovate an existing building on the property and construct the complex saying he has done a similar project in Leander. He said the apartments would rent in a range from $950 to $1,050 per month and an on-site manager would live on the property.
