Airbus announced on 1 April that it has accepted by the Canadian government as a bidder for the Strategic Tanker Transport Capability (STTC) procurement programme to replace the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) Airbus A310 multirole tanker transport (MRTT) fleet.
Rival manufacturer Boeing is also bidding for STTC with its KC-46A Pegasus.
The RCAF operates four A310 MRTT aircraft as the CC-150 Polaris. Two of these aircraft are used purely in the transport role and two operate as tanker/transport platforms. ....

USN and RAAF to receive more Poseidon aircraft - Air Warfare

USN will obtain 11 more P-8A aircraft and RAAF fleet will grow by two.
The USN is procuring 11 additional P-8A Poseidon long-range anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare aircraft from Boeing for $1.7 billion, the manufacturer announced on 31 March.
Two of these Poseidons will be supplied to the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) as a partner in the P-8A programme.
The latest contract will bring to 114 the total number of P-8As in the USN inventory, plus 14 bought by the RAAF via the FMS programme.
Other orders for the P-8A (or variants thereof) have come from India, New Zealand, Norway, Saudi Arabia, South Korea and the UK. ....

New framework deal sees Camcopter S-100 used for emissions monitoring and maritime surveillance.
Schiebel has received another contract from the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA), the company announced on 1 April.
Under the €16.5 million ($19.4 million) framework agreement, the Schiebel Camcopter S-100 will be used for emissions monitoring and maritime surveillance.
Schiebel already provides EMSA and local authorities in Croatia and Finland with maritime surveillance services. The Croatian contract was awarded in November 2018 and renewed 12 months later, while EMSA selected the S-100 for the Finnish Border and Coast Guard in 2020. ....

Iron Dome undergoes further tests - Land Warfare

In latest tests, Iron Dome intercepted and destroyed simulated existing and emerging threats, including simultaneous interception of multiple UAVs.
Rafael Advanced Defense System and the Israel Missile Defense Organization (IMDO) have completed further advanced tests of the Iron Dome air and short-range missile defence system.
Tests involving Israeli Air Force (IAF) personnel at a site in southern Israel ‘demonstrated a significant upgrade of the system’s technological capabilities’, Rafael announced on 16 March, by testing Iron Dome in multiple ‘complex scenarios’ to intercept and destroy simulated existing and emerging threats.
Achievements included the simultaneous interception of multiple UAVs, as well as a salvo of rockets and missiles. ....

Canadian sonar site to be expanded - Digital Battlespace

Canadian sonar manufacturer invests in centre of excellence.
Ultra Electronics Maritime Systems intends to transform an existing facility in Novia Scotia into a global sonar centre of excellence, the company announced on 16 March.
The Dartmouth facility will be significantly modernised, ‘reconfigured for expanded capacity, and networked to Ultra’s other sonar sites in the United Kingdom and Australia’, Ultra added, as it seeks to develop export sales to its Five Eyes alliance customers.
The investment plan, potentially costing C$20 million ($16 million), follows recent contract awards for Ultra to provide its hull-mounted and variable-depth sonars for the Canadian Surface Combatant (CSC) programme. ....
