McCarthy Chasing Vital Three Points - Ipswich Town News

McCarthy Chasing Vital Three Points
Tuesday, 16th Apr 2013 06:00
The Blues go into tonight’s home game against Crystal Palace looking for the three points which manager Mick McCarthy expects will be enough to guarantee Championship football during 2013/14. Town currently sit in 17th place on 53 points, four from the drop zone with four matches left to play.
McCarthy believes another win ought to be enough to ensure safety, but given the division’s notorious unpredictability, he’s not entirely certain: “I think with 56 points we’ll stay up but that’s only me thinking, that’s only me assuming and as we all know, assumption is the mother of all cock-ups! But I do think that’s what will happen, and I’ll take it now.” ....

EFL Aiming to Resume Season Behind Closed Doors in June
Thursday, 9th Apr 2020 15:41
The EFL has told clubs it is aiming to restart the season in June and will look to play its three divisions remaining 113 fixtures, including the play-offs, over 56 days behind closed doors.
Currently fixtures are suspended indefinitely but the EFL has written to clubs outlining what they currently plan as the way forward once football is able to restart.
In a letter from EFL chairman Rick Parry following an EFL board meeting on Wednesday, clubs are advised to put their players on holiday - players are entitled to five weeks’ paid holiday per year - with a view to returning to training on May 16th at the earliest ahead of what s been interpreted to be a June resumption of fixtures. However, those plans depend on Government advice and ongoing developments with the coronavirus pandemic. ....

Wigan Winger Linked - Ipswich Town News

Wigan Winger Linked
Sunday, 8th Mar 2015 11:06
Town are reported to be keen to sign Wigan winger James McClean on loan for the remainder of the season.
According to the
Sun on Sunday manager Mick McCarthy wants to add the Ireland international to his squad as the Blues go into the final 10 games of the season.
Town would reportedly have to pay McClean £20,000 a week if he were to make the move, which would appear to be a significant potential stumbling block.
The 25-year-old has been a regular in the Wigan side in recent weeks as the Latics continue their relegation battle so would seem to be firmly in manager Malky Mackay’s plans for the rest of the season, however, the ....

Berra: Little Between Town and QPR - Ipswich Town News

Berra: Little Between Town and QPR
Monday, 13th Jan 2014 06:00
Town centre-half Christophe Berra believes there was little between the Blues and QPR in the two games the sides have played this season, despite the West Londoners taking all six points from the matches.
At Loftus Road in August debutant Tom Hitchcock came off the bench to score a last-gasp winner, while Rangers won 3-1 at Portman Road on Saturday, even though Town had had the better of the goalless first half.
In the first game they scored in the last minute and [on Saturday] we were unfortunate again. That s football for you,“ said Berra. ....
