PROVIDENCE Neither Sheila Steiner nor her husband, Manfred, so much as flinched when they got their coronavirus vaccine. The Riverside couple, both retired doctors, had been waiting anxiously for the vaccine against COVID-19, and it came as a huge relief when they were able to get their first shots on Saturday at Lifespan’s Center for Primary Care in Providence. “We’re so grateful that Lifespan organized this and were able to get us in so quickly,” Sheila said. They were among the first elderly residents of Rhode Island who live on their own to get the vaccine, and also among the first general members of the public to get it. To date, the vaccine had only been available to first responders, health care workers, people in congregate settings such as nursing homes, and those in other high-risk groups. ....
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE): Lifespan plans to vaccinate 350 patients who are 75 and older this weekend. The Lifespan clinics aren’t open to the public. A spokesperson told ABC6 News that eligible patients were directly contacted to sign-up. Lifespan, the state’s largest health care system teamed up with the Rhode Island Department of Health to hold the special clinics. Nearly 125 people aged 75 and older received the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine, on Saturday. Manfred Steiner, 89, and Sheila Steiner, 93, from East Providence were chosen to get the vaccine. “I’m so grateful to get the vaccine,” Sheila Steiner said. Both are retired physicians and know firsthand just how monumental it was. ....
