AS flames of violence and other forms of lives guzzling insecurity flicker in many parts of the country, Nigeria has literally become a killing field.
In the first six weeks of 2021, lives of no fewer than 1, 525 persons have been wasted across the country Vanguard’s investigation, and data obtained from the Nigeria Security Tracker, NST, a project of the Council on Foreign Relations’ Africa programme, have shown.
The Nigeria Security Tracker tracks violence that is both causal and symptomatic of Nigeria’s political instability and citizen alienation. The data are based on weekly surveys of Nigerian and international media. ....

In the first six weeks of 2021, no fewer than 1, 525 persons have died across the country, Vanguard’s investigation and data obtained from the Nigeria Security Tracker, NST, a project of the Council on Foreign Relations’ Africa programme, have shown.
The 1,525-death figure, which is conservative, covers only reported cases arising from the Boko Haram insurgency, banditry, herdsmen crisis, kidnapping, communal and cult clashes,  armed robbery, and brutality of security agents among others.

• IPOB Turning To Insurgency
A state of Peace (SOP) Report carried out by Peace Pro Nigeria has affirmed that peace and security are under threat in all 36 states of the federation and Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
 
The Report identified threat to peace and security to include communal clashes, land grabbing, humanitarian/ environmental/political and social crisis, banditry, insurgency, conspiracy, killings, lootings, and other forms of criminality.
 
The Executive Director, Peace Pro, Hamzat Abdulrazaq, said the Report classified Katsina and Zamfara states as epic centres of banditry, noting that banditry had risen to insurgency. He stressed the need for government to pay more attention to it like Boko Haram in the Northeast. ....

The mention of his name scared anyone familiar with his reign of terror. Terwase Akwaza, well known as Gana, was a warlord who matched security agencies with force. With gang members spread across Benue and Taraba states, Gana’s horror was grimly etched in many homes of his victims.
Until he met his Waterloo at the hands of the military in September 2020, Gana-led gangs ran riot on several highways within the two states, kidnapping and maiming travellers at will.
He started out as a fighter for politicians but later formed a gang that specialised in kidnapping, armed robbery and assassination after they dumped him. Man in court over alleged N4.1m fraud - Daily Post Nigeria

The Police on Wednesday arraigned a 45-year-old man, Ibironke Peter, before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, for allegedly defrauding a man of more than N4.1 million.
NAN reports that the defendant of no fixed address is standing trial on a two-count charge of obtaining by false pretence and stealing.
The Prosecutor, ASP Amos Adewale, told the court that Ibironke had on March 5, 2020, at Dugbe area in Ibadan, allegedly obtained the sum of N4, 187, 000 from one Afolabi Abayomi.
Adewale said, “the defendant was alleged to have obtained the sum of money under the pretence of converting the money to Russian Rubbuis which he refused to do. ....
