FDA’s Welch on DSHEA 2.0: ‘We have an opportunity for real, common sense reform that I don’t believe we can let pass by’

“FDA is not looking to throw out DSHEA and start fresh – rather we are talking about building on the current framework,” said FDA’s Dr Cara Welch. Done correctly, initiatives like a mandatory product listing would not impose significant burdens on the industry, she said.
Speaking as part of the online AHPA Botanical Congress on May 24, Dr Cara Welch, PhD, acting director of the Office of Dietary Supplement Programs (ODSP), said:
“With mandatory product listing, we believe it’s possible to construct a narrowly-tailored requirement that respects and preserves DSHEA’s original vision of consumers’ right to access safe, well-manufactured, and appropriately labeled dietary supplements with, just as important, upholding FDA ....

Sit-in for Shia missing persons called off after talks with govt

Families of ‘missing Shia persons’ on Friday called off their sit-in, saying that they took the decision in view of the rising Covid-19 cases as well as after holding successful talks with the government and security agencies.
The announcement of calling off the sit-in was made by leaders of the Joint Action Committee for Shia Missing Persons during a press conference at the sit-in camp outside the Mazar-e-Quaid.
The action committee had started the sit-in on April 2. Speakers, including Allama Syed Ahmed Iqbal Rizvi, Allama Baqir Zaidi, the father of missing person Ali Haider, and the wife of missing person Abrar Hassan, said at the press conference that they had been holding a peaceful and organised protest sit-in for the past 28 days without disturbing anything and their protest even did not impede vehicular traffic. ....

Sit-in held outside Governor House for recovery of missing Shia persons

The Joint Action Committee for Shia Missing Persons and families of missing Shia persons on Wednesday held a protest sit-in in front of the Governor House where they alleged that the government and state institutions were not serious about having their loved ones recovered.
Children of missing persons along with their mothers gathered near the main gate of the Governor House and registered their protest. Contingents of police were already deployed on Aiwan-e-Sadar Road where temporary barriers were also erected.
Protesters were carrying banners and placards inscribed with their demands and slogans. Some of them carried images of the president, prime Minister, chief of the army staff and governor. ....
