Photo courtesy Irsa s website/File KARACHI: The Sindh Assembly on Monday witnessed a stormy session as ruling Pakistan People Party vehemently condemned the federal government for cutting down Sindh’s water share in violation of the 1991 Water Accord through a strong-worded resolution that was opposed by the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, saying the PPP created an artificial shortage by favouring its “blue-eyed waderas”. Major opposition parties in the provincial assembly Grand Democratic Alliance and Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan which are coalition partners of the PTI-led federal government, however, supported the resolution tabled by Irrigation Minister Sohail Anwar Sial. ....

PHOTO: PPI KARACHI: There was a ruckus in Sindh Assembly on Monday as the house took up water shortage in Sindh. Lawmakers discarded the agenda after Sindh Irrigation Minister Sohail Anwar Siyal moved a resolution condemning the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-led federal government and the Indus River System Authority (IRSA) for violating the Water Apportionment Accord of 1991 and cutting down Sindh’s share. The resolution demanded Sindh’s due water share. The accusation prompted an uproar by the PTI lawmakers but the resolution found support from other opposition members, including those of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan and the Grand Democratic Alliance, and was passed. A former PTI lawmaker also spoke in favour of the resolution much to the other party lawmakers’ chagrin. ....

The basic party membership of Abro, MPA from PS-1 Jacobabad-I and Shar, MPA from PS-18 Ghotki-I, has been cancelled, the PTI s Standing Committee on Accountability and Discipline (SCAD) shared in an order. The decision was taken unanimously by members of the committee, according to a statement by the PTI s media department. ....

Despite emerging as the largest party in the Upper House, the PTI suffered a defeat at the hands of PDM’s Yusuf Raza Gilani who managed to get the Islamabad general seat from PTI’s Hafeez Sheikh. Gilani’s victory was a shocker for the PTI government, forcing PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari to triumphantly tweet: “Democracy is the best revenge.
