AAA Delhi Police have registered a First Information Report against former Aligarh Muslim University student Sharjeel Usmani for allegedly posting objectionable tweets.
Police said that a complaint was received at East Delhi s Laxmi Nagar police station stating that Usmani s tweets regarding a journalist s death and Lord Ram were defamatory.
Police have registered a non-cognizable report under section 505 (statements conducting to public mischief) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered.

New Delhi [India], May 22 (ANI): The Delhi Police on Saturday registered a case against former Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) student Sharjeel Usmani in connection with certain objectionable tweets allegedly posted by him.
According to the police, a case has been registered against Usmani under section 505 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The case has been registered at the Laxmi Nagar police station. The case was registered on the complaint of a BJP leader alleging objectional tweets by Usmani, the police said.
According to the FIR, some of the recent tweets by Usmani hurt religious sentiments.

A non cognisable FIR was registered against former Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) student Sharjeel Usmani for allegedly posting objectionable tweets, the police said on Saturday.
Police sources said the Laxmi Nagar police station received a complaint by BJP media head Naveen Kumar.
The complainant stated that Mr. Usmani’s tweets regarding ‘Lord Ram’ and the recent death of a news anchor were defamatory, mischievous and intended to hurt religious sentiments.
Sources said that a non cognisable report under Section 505 (statements conducing to public mischief) of the Indian Penal Code was registered on May 20 and further investigation will be conducted according to law.
