Sharjah: The efforts of the Sharjah Police, the General Administration of Civil Defence and the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship in supporting the business sector during the COVID-19 pandemic came in for high praise at the virtual Economic Sustainability Forum on Wednesday. The forum was organised by the Sharjah Police General Command, in cooperation with the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) under the slogan “Fifty Years . for a Sustainable Economy”. The meeting focused on ways to further improve security services and adopt new ideas. SHARE The number of fire-related incidents in Sharjah fell by more than half to 130 thanks to increased inspections and awareness campaigns in the emirate last year. Fires fell 56 per cent from 299 in 2019, to 130 in 2020. No deaths were recorded in 2020, compared to two fire-related mortalities in 2019. After a spate of fires in industrial areas in 2019, blazes in those zones now make up less than 10 per cent of the total incidents in the emirate. Sharjah: Awareness campaigns by Sharjah authorities have helped reduce fire incidents in the emirate and led to an increased safety level for buildings, with 130 incidents recorded in 2020, as compared to 299 in 2019, marking a 56 per cent drop. The Civil Defence department recorded zero deaths in Sharjah last year due to fire, compared to two deaths in 2019. Colonel Sami Khamis Al Naqbi, Director General of Sharjah Civil Defence, attributed the success to the efforts of the Civil Defence department by taking all necessary measures and mobilising the required resources and deploying state-of-the-art technologies to ensure rapid emergency response through qualified firefighting cadres, concerted action and teamwork to help achieve the goals of the General Command of Civil Defence. ....
