Long before the federation came about, the area was known as the Arabian Peninsula that can be traced back to 6000 B.C. Remnants of the country’s past are peppered through the various archeological sites in the country, with Hili Archaeological Park a personal favourite.

The first dirham notes were introduced in 1973 with denominations of Dh1, 5, 10, 50 and 100. Three years later the Dh1,000 note was released. The first notes issued had both Arabic and English lettering, with various landmarks of the UAE printed on them. They were similar to those that are in circulation today.
UAE: New roads for Sharjah livestock market set to open

The Sharjah Road and Transport Authority is set to open new roads and parking lots for the Sajaa livestock and cattle market tomorrow, April 1.
The Dh13-million project comes as part of the authority’s efforts to facilitate people’s movement and keep pace with the rapid development of the city.
Yousef Saleh Al-Suwaiji, chairman of the SRTA, said these new roads and parking lots are expected to help a large segment of visitors.

Motorists using E311 highway should drive with caution.
The UAE Ministry of Energy & Infrastructure MoEI) (has announced that maintenance work will be conducted on bridge on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Rd in Sharjah from February 22 until March 17.
The MoEI announces that maintenance works will be carried out for Bridge No. 3 on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road E311 in the Emirate of Sharjah, as of 22/02/2021 until 17/03/2021, from 1am until 5am. pic.twitter.com/W0cNzaT9M8 (@MOEIUAE) February 22, 2021
Motorists should note that the work will be carried on Bridge No. 3, on the E311 highway, daily from 1am until 5am until March 17.
