Official sources said that CPI (M) candidate Mohammad Afzal who is also District Secretary CPI (M) and won DDC elections on Pombai seat, was unanimously elected as the first DDC chairman of Kulgam as he was supported by all the 13 candidates. They said National Conference Candidate Shazia Poswal, who won DDC elections from Manzgam seat was elected as Vice Chairman unanimously. ....

Two Minor Bakerwal Children Die Of Severe Cold In South Kashmir SRINAGAR: Two minor children of a Bakerwal family from Reasi died of severe cold in Brinal Lammar area of Devsar in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district, officials said here. An official told the news agency KNO that a Bakerwal family from Reasi was putting up in a tent under the open sky in Brinal Lammar area, adding that on Saturday late night one of their minor children died of severe cold inside the tent. He identified the deceased as Sahil Zubair (10) son of Zubair Ahmad Mandar, of Reasi. The official said that on the intervening night of Sunday Monday their 6-year-old daughter Shazia Jan also developed some complications due to severe cold and the family immediately shifted her to a nearby healthcare facility. ....
