'We don't need more talking, we need action': Frontline women's violence workers slam national survey

“We don’t need more talking, we need action.”
Executive director of advocacy group Fair Agenda Renee Carr said the survey was “staggering”. “We don’t need a strawpoll on whether or not survivors get the best quality support and reform, we need leadership,” she said.

I attended my first protest against sexual violence just after I began university.
It was 2017 and the Australian Human Rights Commission had just released the Change the Course Report, over 250 pages detailing the prevalence of sexual assault and harassment at Australian universities in 2015 and 2016. Of the 30,000+ students who responded, 1 in 5 students were sexually harassed in a university setting, and 1.6% had been sexually assaulted in a university setting, including travel to and from campus. ....

Sexual assault and mental health services have been dealing with increased calls and emails from survivors following public allegations of rape and sexual assault against the attorney general and a ministerial staffer over the past month.
Christian Porter has strongly denied the allegation, which dates back to 1988 and was detailed in a bundle of documents sent anonymously to the prime minister and other senior MPs in late February.
Lisa Cheng, the executive director of marketing and fundraising for Lifeline Australia, told Guardian Australia the support service had been experiencing high levels of demand in recent weeks. ....

Why the Rape Claim Against Australia's Attorney General Seems Familiar

Why the Rape Claim Against Australia’s Attorney General Seems Familiar
Some see unsettling parallels with another powerful man halfway across the world.

to get it by email.
He was accused of sexual assault decades after it allegedly occurred, in a way that makes police investigation all but impossible. Backed by his party and the most powerful man in the country, he maintained his innocence and held one of the most important legal positions in the country, even as questions continued to swirl around him. ....
