But just as the canopy disappeared in the Cove following the Category 5 hurricane, so went the speckled silver and black large cat. It would be almost three years until the indoor-outdoor feline was found.
Tiki torch mishap sparks apartment building fire displacing 12, injuring 1

MONROE COUNTY, MI – Twelve renters were displaced from their apartments and one person was injured Monday morning after a lit Tiki torch fell over and started a fire, police said.
Police and fire crews were called at 12:39 a.m. May 3, to the Newport Woods Apartments on Canterberry Lane in Berlin Township for a reported apartment on fire, according to Michigan State Police.
Emergency crews arrived to find flames coming from the exterior of the building as officers evacuated residents from the 12-unit apartment building, police said.
Fire crews were able to extinguish the blaze but not before is caused major damage to three apartments and additional smoke and water damage to the remaining apartments in the building, police said.
Fire at Newport Woods injures man, displaces a dozen residents
Michigan State Police are investigating an apartment fire in the Newport Woods subdivision in Newport early Monday morning that took four fire area departments to put out and resulted in a male resident suffering burns to his hand and a dozen other residents being evacuated.
At approximately 12:39 a.m. Monday, troopers from the State Police at the Monroe Post were dispatched to an address on Canterberry Lane in the heavily wooded subdivision off Newport Rd. for an apartment fire. Callers reported flames from the exterior of the building, police said in a press release. Upon arrival, troopers worked to evacuate the building.
