BY SARAH HONOSKY The (Lynchburg) News & Advance BROOKNEAL â In a clearing about a half mile from the main buildings of the Patrick Henry National Memorial on Red Hill, on the northwest edge of the old tobacco plantation, was a sea of white markers â more than 140 crosses marking the gravesites of the Quarter Place enslaved and African American cemetery. Until recently, the graves were only recognizable by depressions in the earth, by scattered field-stones and the single engraved tombstone, which carves like a question mark from the soft soil. It was a history almost lost entirely. But Saturday morning, the cemetery was washed with chatter and song, and crowds of people spilled into the clearing to attend a dedication and remembrance ceremony at the cemetery, a celebration of the lives of the enslaved people who once lived on the site. ....

Meals will be offered through drive-up or delivery options. The 6th Annual Community Christmas Dinner will be held on Christmas Day at Calvary Baptist Church from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Organizers said the meal is open to anyone. Volunteers are still needed for the event. Anyone wishing to help deliver meals should arrive at the church at 10:30 a.m. Those wishing to help prepare the meals should also arrive at the church at 10:30 a.m. ....
Sixth Annual Chillicothe Community Christmas Dinner to be held via drive-through 3 Shares The Sixth Annual Chillicothe Community Christmas Dinner will be held via drive-through and delivery due to the pandemic. Pick up at the Calvary Baptist Church at 206 Locust Street in Chillicothe will be Christmas Day from 11 to 1 o’clock. Anyone can pick up meals, but deliveries are limited to Chillicothe. Christmas Dinner Committee Member Sharon Brooks says volunteers are needed to make deliveries, fill to-go boxes, and packaging meals for the drive-through and delivery. Anyone who wants to volunteer should arrive at 10:30. Brooks explains the dinner was started six years ago and intended to reach out to those who could not get a traditional meal on Christmas due to restaurants closing, family out of state, or no family. ....
