The Montclair History Center has found a buyer for the historic Charles Shultz House, said Jane Eliasof, director of the center, which owns the property.
The 21-room mansion and two-bedroom carriage house, sitting on nearly 2 acres on a rise overlooking Manhattan, has been purchased by a Montclair couple who have agreed to honor restrictions on changes to the historic home, she said.
Eliasof will not share the purchase price or the identify of the buyers until after the closing, which has not been scheduled. The house was listed in March 2020 for $1.45 million with taxes of $48,000; it is currently listed on Zillow for $1.25 million.
Motorists entering Gettysburg Borough from the west will no doubt notice the stately brick home with Victorian features that sits at the corner of Confederate Avenue and West Middle Street.
The Shultz House, so-called for the family who lived there during the Battle of Gettysburg, was built in 1837 by Herman Haupt, a renowned civil engineer.
Owners Andy and Charity Heaton moved in 13 years ago. At the time, they were renovating a historic home in Charles Town, W.Va., but with a growing family and career responsibilities, they started to look for something that needed a little less work.
âWe didnât have time to do extensive renovations,â Andy said. âWe were looking for something old, but that had been restored.â
