Whether you eat them, or not, almost everyone loves french fries. True story. A recent survey pegged the number at more than 99%, which is reason to celebrate National French Fry Day. That same survey noted Americans eat 30 pounds of French fries, per person, per year, and we re rather particular about what makes a good one.
While a third of consumers choose McDonald s fries over all others, most agree the perfect fry has particular qualities. For the details, we turn to chef Shannen Tune, from Katy s Craft Burger.
Craft Burger, 21945 Katy Freeway, opened December 26. This is the first brick and mortar for Shannen Tune, who began the business as a highly successful food truck in 2015. Craft Burger then took up residence as one of the vendors at Finn Hall in December 2018, a downtown food hall that has been temporarily (we hope) closed due to the pandemic. During that time, Tune has been using a ghost kitchen at Blodgett Street Food Hall to operate multiple concepts including Thick Chick, which he debuted earlier this year. The new concept, which features spicy hot chicken sandwiches, will be on the menu at the new Craft Burger location as will Pecking Order, Tune s fried chicken brand. Tune plans to add rotisserie-style chicken and grilled chicken to the concept including jerk chicken as a nod to his wife Stacey s Jamaican upbringing. Stacey is also a professional chef.

Craft Burger has opened its first stand-alone location in the Mason Village Shopping Center (21945 Katy Freeway). Chef-owner
Shannen Tune opened Craft Burger as a food truck in 2016. From there, the
Chopped champion expanded to Finn Hall in 2018. The new restaurant offers 25 tables and a custom mural by local artist Israel Rodriguez. While it s perfectly possible to get a standard cheeseburger, the restaurant has become known for its more decadent fare like the truffle butter juicy Lucy or the morning after burger, which is topped with candied bacon and a sunnyside-up egg and served on a bacon-cheddar waffle. The menu also includes a range of grilled and fried chicken sandwiches, along with chicken tenders, a Cuban sandwich, and a vegan burger. Rotisserie and grilled chicken will be added to the menu in the coming weeks.
