The Whiteoak High School juniors and seniors are hard at work with GRIT (Growing Rural Independence Together Through Jobs).
GRIT is a project that gives students the opportunity to work with a career coach to help them with their future plans.
The future plans assessment provides data that can be a powerful tool in helping students better prepare for their futures. Whiteoak High School is grateful to have nine career coaches helping students with one-on-one conversations about their career goals and aspirations.
A special thank-you to each one of the career coaches that took the time to help our Wildcats. ....

Even though he was being presented last weekend with a proclamation from the Ohio House of Representatives for 50 years of service to the Roy W. Wilson Mowrystown American Legion Post 694, Teddy Ruble said the day was not about him.
“It’s not my day, it’s the Lord’s day,” said Ruble, a 1964 Whiteoak High School graduate and current Hillsboro resident. “I’m a Christian, and you can tell anybody that I’m a Christian.” ....

Hillsboro resident and Whiteoak High School graduate Blake Kibler will hold a signing of his new book “Time Served” from 4-7 p.m. Sunday, May 23 at Details Salon and Day Spa in Hillsboro.
All are welcome to this event. There will be table foods along with pictures and copies of the book available to buy in paperback form.
The book is currently available to purchase on Amazon.
“My story is told through a fictional character, Noah, a boy who for all his troubles just wants to be normal,” Kibler said. “But at the age of 20, Noah is in jail for the murder of his father. Mrs. Sheridan, his prison therapist, encourages Noah to write down the dark thoughts that pound through his brain on a daily basis. As he anxiously awaits his sentencing, he begins to write about events in his life that have led to his current situation. ....

City council workshop
There will be a Hillsboro City Council workshop meeting on Wednesday, April 28 at 6:30 p.m. at 108 Gov. Trimble Place to discuss Chapter 30.
Retired Teachers Association
The Highland County Retired Teachers Association will meet at noon Monday, May 3 at the Old Y Restaurant. All retired educators and others interested are invited to attend. This will be the first in-person meeting for more than a year. Everyone will order their meal from the menu at noon and the program will begin at 12:45. The regular business meeting will follow the program which will be presented by a choral ensemble from Whiteoak High School. This month’s community service project is the Southern Ohio Pregnancy Center and all donations will go to the center. Donations for SOPC as well as scholarship donations or any dues payments should be sent to Doris Pulse, treasurer, at 11740 S.R. 753, Greenfield, Ohio 45123. Donations can also be made at the meeting. ....

LHS Principal Mr. James Brewer said while he was pleased to see his campus recognized for its high graduation rate, college readiness, and proficiency score, there is always room for improvement.
We hold ourselves to the highest standards, so while it s nice to see (these rankings) it s not something that we re going to put much stock in, he said. Longview High School remains committed to providing the best possible education for all the young people in our care.
