BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) â The Western New York Land Conservancy is seeking input and designs for the Riverline in Buffalo.
The conservancy received over 400 photo designs from across Western New York for a presentation, Wednesday evening.
The goal is to create a nature trail and greenway along the old DL&W Corridor running from Canalside to the Buffalo River.
âGetting the public s input on the initial concepts is a significant step in our design work,â said Barbara Wilks of W Architecture and Landscape Architecture, the lead design firm, which is based in Brooklyn. âNot only will it give the community an opportunity to see different possible versions of The Riverlineâs future, it will also give the community a chance to shape that vision moving forward. Nick Lippa: Tell me a little bit about your involvement with the Western New York Land Conservancy and your relationship so far with the Riverline Project.
PP: Yeah, we re the design team, which is led by W Architecture out of New York (Brooklyn). We are a landscape architecture and public art practice, based out of Oakland, California. And we work on projects all across the United States. And we are a social art and cultural landscape practice. And so W Architecture put together a team for The Riverline in Buffalo consisting of themselves as the lead, and architect, as the landscape architect, and then greenshield ecology as well as an ecologist. Riverline connecting Canalside to Buffalo River begins public review

Big changes are coming to the 1.5 mile stretch of the unused railroad corridor that runs from Solar City in Downtown Buffalo to the DL&W Terminal.
Western New York Land Conservancy is looking for input on their Riverline Project designs, a project that has been in the works since 2017.

Conservancy Deputy Executive Director Jajean Rose-Burney said the goal of the project is to connect Buffalo residents to nature.

“These communities don t have a lot of access to nature,” he said. “And you know the Buffalo-Niagara region doesn t have a lot of access to the waterfront.”

Rose-Burney said the state-funded project has core ideas in place, but the public’s feedback will shape what the end result is. ....
