CLARKSBURG â The hunt is on for the lost 176-year-old grave of a 5-month-old girl. For more than 35 years, a gravestone has been haunting the offices of Clarksburg Town Hall, and nobody could remember how it got there, or where it came from. People have been working around the stone for decades, sometimes wondering about its origins, but mostly just treating it like part of the office decor. Through the years, it was kept in the town clerkâs office, and for at least the past 20 years, it has been in the town administratorâs office. It seems to be a classic limestone grave marker. It belongs to the grave for Jean Renfrew Miller, who died at 5 months old in 1845. According to the inscription on the partially legible stone, she was the daughter of James and Catherine Miller. The last line on the stone partially is visible and reads: âAlas how changed ⦠lovely flower.â ....
January 5 Local restaurants encourage diners to support United Way Throughout the months of October and November, local restaurants teamed up with United Way of 1000 Lakes to participate in this yearâs Dining United, which helps to raise funds for their annual campaign. Participating restaurants included 17th Street Grill, Bixbys, Brewed Awakenings, Culverâs, Forest Lake Lounge and downstairs steakhouse, Locker Room Bar and Grill, Pickled Loon Saloon, Rapids Brewing Company, Toivoâs Restaurant and Sports Bar, Unwined Up North and Zorbaz on Pokegama Lake. Each restaurant donated a percentage of sales from breakfast, lunch and dinner menu items to United Way and raised over $4,800 to support individuals and families hoping to reach their highest potential in the Itasca Area. ....
