Outgoing state manager for SA/NT enterprise and government Ric Matto has been named state manager for NSW enterprise and government, while Chris Lobascher officially moved into the head of enterprise sales NSW role. “Under new management: Vocus NSW has a new sales management structure, along with confirming my new position, it s with pleasure that we announce Chris Lobascher as Head of Enterprise Sales NSW,” Matto’s post read. “Chris brings such high energy and focus to the team and is truly a great person to work alongside. Vocus will deploy a 2000km high-capacity fibre link between Geraldton and Port Hedland in Western Australia by the end of next year. Codenamed ‘Project Horizon’, it is designed to provide a “missing link … between Port Hedland, where [Vocus’] North West Cable System from Darwin lands, and Geraldton, where [the company’s] terrestrial network ends,” chief operating officer Ellie Sweeney told the CommsDay Summit in Sydney. “The first stage of this program of work is now underway,” she said. “Project Horizon has been part of our long-term network extension plans for several years, and the high-level design work has already been completed. ....

Last month, Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets Holding (MIRA) and Aware Super had agreed to team up for a A$5.50 per share non-binding offer for the Melbourne-based fibre network owner. The buyout offer from the Macquarie-led consortium, one of at least three approaches since 2019, is the highest from any recent suitor. Power supplier AGL Energy and Swedish private equity firm EQT Infrastructure dropped similar proposals after brief due diligence periods. ....
