EDP Renewables North America has started commercial operation of the 209MW Reloj del Sol wind farm in the US state of Texas. Reloj del Sol, in Zapata County, will help strengthen Texas s grid and is estimated to provide approximately $36m in direct payments to local governments and $100m in payments to landowners throughout the life of the project, EDPR said. The commissioning of the project supported 101 full-time equivalent jobs during construction and created 10 permanent jobs, dedicated to operating and maintaining the wind farm. This project is the latest project in EDPR s growing energy portfolio in Texas, joining the company s four operating wind farms in the state. ....
View Comments BREMERTON Two years of construction work that will remove box culverts under Highway 3 and build a bridge over Chico Creek is set to begin this fall, according to the state s Department of Transportation. Transportation officials say the $58.3 million project will improve salmon habitat and migration in perhaps Kitsap County s most abundant salmon stream. But the complex work to help fish passage makes for a tricky balancing act to ensure human passage remains as smooth as possible during construction. There s no good time for lane closures, said Doug Adamson, a WSDOT spokesman. However, this is a herculean effort we are undertaking. ....
Photos courtesy of the City of San Pablo The Wildcat Creek Restoration and Greenway Trail Project is completed and the trail is now open to the community, the City of San Pablo announced Wednesday. “The project restored 2,200 linear feet of creek and constructed 2,100 linear feet of trail with a bicycle and pedestrian path, 2,000 native riparian trees and shrubs,” the city stated. “The trail between Church Lane and Vale Road will be a crucial link in the future Wildcat Creek Regional Trail, connecting the San Francisco Bay and Wildcat Canyon Regional Park Ridge Trails.” The use of the trail by bicyclists and pedestrians will also help prevent illicit activities along the creek corridor, the city said. ....
View Comments The Suquamish Tribe is currently conducting its yearly survey to gather information on coho salmon traveling to Chico Creek, using a partnership with a private and virtually untouched forest preserve to help determine any issues that might be threatening population numbers. One of the most important pieces of the puzzle is habitat, said Jon Oleyar, Suquamish Fisheries biologist. This tributary is one of the best in the county, said Oleyar, but said early observations are showing a lower number of returning fish. “If there’s no fish coming down here it’s pretty safe to say there’s no fish in the rest of the county,” he said, though adding that no two streams are exactly alike. ....
Courtesy images from City of Manhattan. Phase 3 of a Wildcat Creek bridge replacement on K-18 is now underway. The final phase, which began Monday, includes the construction of the south half of the bridge and lanes. As a result, a traffic shift is beginning this week and will be head-to-head in the newly constructed westbound lanes to allow construction to commence in the eastbound lanes.. Rosencutter Road access at Fort Riley Blvd remains closed and detours for south Rosencutter will continue via Seth Child Road and Stagg Hill Road. Poliska Lane and the commercial entrance opposite of Poliska will be right-in, rightout access for the duration of Phase 3. ....
