Waterford city cafe owners call for outdoor dining hubs

With the reopening of Waterford’s economy, some city centre eateries are hoping for a different approach to dining this summer.
A number of cafe owners want to see designated outdoor dining areas in the city centre.
The call comes as there is still no restart date for indoor dining in restaurants and cafes.
Peter Fowler from the Granary Cafe says parts of the city would be well suited to the measure: “The pandemic is such that I believe that every city and small town really should be concentrating on hubs around the city, totally and utterly administered by the council. They will be there when the pandemic is over.” ....

€27.6m for 'transformative' projects for Waterford city centre


Waterford Council has been granted €27.6m by the government to rejuvenate the city centre.
The money will be spent across a total of 22 projects around the city centre in the wider Viking Triangle & Cultural Quarter areas.
The funding, which is the full amount applied for, is being allocated from the second round of the government’s Urban Regeneration and Development Fund (URDF) and follows on from the €110 million for the North Quays last November.
Waterford Fine Gael Senator John Cummins described the funding as ‘transformative’ and said the total investment will be in the region of €48.5 million:
“Today is a further watershed day and again demonstrates the government’s commitment to Waterford in the context of Project Ireland 2040. Waterford City and County Council received every cent of funding they requested of government and in reality the state investment will be far in excess of €27.6 because a number of the projects contain ....

Fáilte Ireland scheme to provide boost for tourism businesses

A new €55 million fund from Failte Ireland has been released to support businesses in the tourism sector.
The business continuity scheme will support those tourism businesses that were not eligible for the Covid Restrictions Support Scheme (CRSS) payment or previous Fáilte Ireland continuity grant schemes. Applications open on the 11th of February and grants from between €3,750 and €200,00 are available.
Other key initiatives include
Investment in Domestic Marketing to drive domestic tourism once the country re-opens including county-specific campaigns
Employee, business and sector supportson areas such as strategy and leadership, finance and cost efficiency, food and beverage innovation, maximising revenue and service excellence to drive performance and help businesses navigate the challenges they are facing, as well as wellbeing services to support employers and employees at this difficult ti ....
