“The frustration of seeing an able, willing workforce available but unable to be hired is untenable,” says Auckland Business Chamber CEO, Michael Barnett, who receives calls daily from businesses which cannot hire the skills they need to maintain service standards and quality experiences.
“It’s common sense to employ the talent we have and while the big plan is to bring in wealthy investors, it is often the low paid, invisible teams of fruit pickers, cleaners, wait staff, dishwashers, cooks, drivers and mechanics who keep the economy and small businesses ticking.” ....

Tourism Industry Aotearoa says businesses gearing up for the return of Australian visitors from next week will have access to an offshore pool of much-needed workers.
Immigration New Zealand has confirmed that the suspension on
processing Working Holiday Visas, in place since last year, will be partially lifted from Monday, when the full transtasman bubble starts, for younger foreign workers who have been in Australia during the pandemic. ....

Tourism businesses gearing up for the return of
Australian visitors from next week will be relieved to learn
that they will also have access to an offshore pool of
much-needed job candidates, Tourism Industry Aotearoa
says.
Tourism employers around the country are
concerned they will not be able to find enough staff to
ensure that Australian visitors enjoy high quality
experiences, TIA Chief Executive Chris Roberts says. Staff
shortages are being reported in destinations that have been
hard hit by the international tourism downturn like
Queenstown and Te Anau, but also in the main
centres.
