May 18, 2021 PHOENIX – Sun Devil Baseball s Ethan Long made it a unanimous decision on Tuesday as he pulled in National Player of the Week honors from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and Perfect game, wrapping up a clean sweep of the awards after yesterday s Collegiate Baseball News recognition.
Long was also named the Pac-12 Player of the Week for the third time this season yesterday as well.
It is the first time this season Long has been recognized by Perfect Game and the NCBWA in the weekly award presentation.
Long is the only player in the Pac-12 to earn multiple Pac-12 Player of the Week nods this season, let alone three. He is the first Pac-12 player to win the honor three times in a season since Hunter Bishop in 2019. Andrew Vaughn of Cal was the last non-Sun Devil to accomplish the feat thrice in one season in 2018 when he was eventually named the Pac-12 Player of the Year. ....
Mays is overflowing with youthful memories, but focuses on kids futures FacebookTwitterEmail Willie Mays has a lot of baseball memories that will bring a smile to his face, but he also wants to focus on future generations of baseball players. “I like to help people,” he says.Deanne Fitzmaurice / The Chronicle 2004 To sit and talk with Willie Mays is to walk into the Polo Grounds or Candlestick Park, hang with Monte Irvin or Bobby Bonds, lose your cap running first to third, and make a basket catch or three. Willie Mays makes us young again. He makes us feel good about ourselves, our environment. He makes us reflect and smile. He makes us want to do better and be kinder. ....

94-98 / 101 I was too low on Meyer before the draft. I saw him up to 101 mph in his first start of the year when he threw a lot of well-located sliders in the 89-92 mph range and struck out several Oregon Ducks. But his stuff and command waned later in the outing, which gave me relief-risk concern, though I should have realized the context for the look (it was his first outing of the season) was likely at play. He proceeded to dismantle TCU (10 K in 5.2 IP), North Carolina (CG, 1 BB, 14 K), and Utah (8 IP, 15 K) in the following three weeks before the shutdown, mostly with the fastball/slider combo, though he did flash a good changeup on occasion, too. Fold in some of the peripheral projection elements I like to bet on (Meyer was also an important offensive player in college, he’s a great on-mound athlete, and he’s coming from a cold weather school) and you can go nuts projecting on the things (mostly the changeup, command, and in-start stamina) that complete what could be ....
share-square-748398 There’s long been a desire to attract more athletes to the sport of baseball, and for good reason. Watching those with premium athleticism roam the outfield or the basepaths can be exciting, and many of the top stars in Major League Baseball today would fit on a list of elite athletes. Athleticism doesn’t just mean pure running speed, though that’s a big part of it, but can also include other tools on the field, from bat speed at the plate to arm strength in the field. You’ll see a lot of them playing up-the-middle premium positions, which is why so many of the top athletes for each organization listed below play shortstop or center field. ....
