STAR of Live at the Apollo, Would I Lie to You?, QI, Have I Got News for You and 8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, Chris McCausland has announced a 36-date tour including a performance in Otley.
“I’ve barely been more than a mile from my house since March 2020,” says Chris, “so this national tour will now feel like the biggest adventure ever undertaken by a human being since Captain Scott set off to reach the South Pole. I can’t wait though, and I don’t think my wife can wait for me to have a reason to leave the house either. It’s a stand-up show. I don’t sing or dance, I talk into a microphone and we all have a good night - and my wife gets some much-needed respite.” ....

The BBC are going all-in on Kiri Pritchard-McLean as a star of the future, as well they might, since she’s a fine comic.
Less than two months after her Radio 4 special Egg-sistential Crisis, about the low birth rate among millennials, comes this Radio 2 pilot, as part of the Festival Of Funny season. And that’s not counting her Radio Wales show, her appearance on Funny Festival Live on BBC Two this Tuesday, her hosting of Radio 4’s Newsjack, and various guest appearances.
The risk of being one of the hardest-working women in comedy, of course, is breadth over depth: becoming one of those comics who’s booked absolutely everywhere as a safely witty pair of hands, without ever getting the chance to create something truly memorable. ....

Funny Festival Live review – BBC series puts standups back on stage

Victoria Wood, Harry Hill and Eddie Izzard are among the comics celebrated in the BBC’s new Festival of Funny. But standup strand Funny Festival Live platforms less heralded names – including those rookies to whom the closure of pubs and theatres has dealt a particularly severe blow. It began last night with a likable, lightweight gig from the Bedford Arms in Balham, hosted by Jason Manford in front of an actual, flesh-and-blood, non-digital audience.
How do they pull off this transgressive feat? The audience, two-dozen strong, are all members of the production team, Covid-secured to their sanitised fingertips. But their presence is still a treat, to armchair comedy fans like myself and comedians starved of in-the-room appreciation. It’s a tonic to see standups address Covid and our new normal, and not buffer and pixelate while doing so. ....
