[Photo by Derrick Stuckly]The Brownwood Lions will take part in their third 7-on-7 Division II state qualifying tournament Saturday as they visit District 5-4A Division I rival Midlothian Heritage. The Lions will compete in Pool B at the Heritage grass practice, located at 4000 FM 1387, against Krum at 9 a.m., district rival Waxahachie Life at 9:45 a.m. and Waco Connally at 10:30 a.m. Brownwood, which is 2-4 in two state qualifiers thus far, defeated Krum, 22-14, in its very first tournament game at Graham on May 15. ....

Lyle Mays Nov. 27, 1953-Feb. 10, 2020 The jazz pianist is best known for his work recording with the Pat Metheny Group, though he lent his considerable chops beyond the group, too. He died at age 66 after what relatives said was a long and recurring illness. As a student at the University of North Texas in the 1970s, Mays composed and arranged the music for the One Oâclock Lab Bandâs album Lab â75, which was nominated for a Grammy Award. Mays went on to be nominated for 23 Grammys, and won 11 as a member of the Pat Metheny Group, which was known for its jazz fusion music. Mays also found his talents charmed critics and fans alike after recording his first solo album, for which he picked up a Grammy nomination as well. Mays made five solo albums, and co-composed the music for the movie ....
