McDonald's donates Christmas party funds to foodbanks | Burnham and Highbridge Weekly News

FIVE McDonald’s restaurants in Somerset donated money they would have spent on their Christmas parties to local foodbanks.
The McDonald’s restaurants in Taunton, Weston-super-Mare, Street, Bridgwater and Yeovil were unable to hold Christmas celebrations due to the coronavirus pandemic, and so decided to give the money to those in need.
A total of £3,500 was given to five foodbanks in Somerset, including Lords Larder Yeovil, Weston Foodbank, Taunton Foodbank, Bridgwater Foodbank and Bridging the Gap ‘Glastonbury and Street’.
McDonald’s is owned and operated by Tim Lamb, felt they had to support those in need this year.
“After what has been such a difficult year for everyone, my team and I felt we had to do our bit to support the brilliant organisations in our local community, that do so much for people in need,” he said. ....

Weston school 'extremely grateful' for fuel poverty donation

Six Weston charities have received donations from a waste management business to aid their support for communities and the environment.
Suez Recycling and Recovery UK made a donation totalling more than £2,000, split evenly amongst the charities, from its Giving Something Back at Christmas fund.
Weston Hospicecare, Samaritans, The Salvation Army, Weston Foodbank, Weston Lions and Citizens Advice were each given £400.

A primary school’s Christmas food exchange hall has proved a huge success.
Ashcombe Primary School in Weston set up a food exchange stall for parents experiencing hardship in July and the supply and demand has grown exponentially.
They have filled up what would amount to dozens of school classrooms full of food and other items including woolly hats, scarfs and gloves.
Headteacher John Clark said: “We really are truly proud of what we ve been able to achieve to date far, with great thanks to Morrisons, Fareshare, Tesco, our families and staff who have all regularly donated.” ....

Winners of the Lockdown Community Champions of Weston awards have been announced this week.
The accolade recognises and celebrates exceptional people in the community who have gone out of their way to help others during the course of the pandemic.
Neil Marsh, owner of cleaning service company CleanSec, is one of 14 people chosen to receive an award for cleaning cash machines, parking meters, door frames and bus stops in Weston and Worle, Portishead, Nailsea, Bristol and Bridgwater before he went to work between 4-6am during lockdown.
Weston and North Somerset Samaritans have also won.   ....
