The Expanse Down and Out Recap: Naomi Struggles, Amos Survives

Image: Amazon Studios
This week’s
Expanse episode title is “Down and Out,” so you know everyone’s going to be feeling the hurt of what’s happened so far and man, it’s beena
lot. But just because certain characters are in regroup mode doesn’t mean the action gets any less tense this week. Quite the opposite: season five shows no mercy!

This is a recap, so be aware: there will be spoilers. Don’t read on unless you’ve watched “Down and Out.”
In the Belt, everyone in Drummer’s faction is reeling after hearing news of the asteroid strike on Earth. They’re shocked by the loss of life (the report they’re watching estimates one to two million dead), and they’re displeased that Marco Inaros (Keon Alexander) has just drawn all of them into a war they weren’t necessarily looking for. “All Belters will have to answer for Marcos’ deeds now,” Oksana (Sandrine Holt) points out. But others among the crew don’t feel te ....

The Expanse season five has somehow already reached episode six with “Tribes,” a somewhat calmer instalment that’s still packed with action and incredible character work, especially for Cara Gee’s Drummer and Wes Chatham’s Amos. Tensions are sky-high as the season enters its second half. ....

The Expanse Season 5 Episode 4 Review

After the shocking cliffhanger
The Expanse delivered last week, the series did not lose any momentum as everyone in the system felt the fallout and Belter terrorist Marco Inaros rose several notches to become the series’ arguably most compelling villain. Everything about ‘Gaugamela’, from the tense action, multiple stories, direction and character work was firing on all cylinders. Even though we’re not even halfway through the fifth season yet, the episode may go down as not only the best of the season, but one of the best episodes
Expanse has ever produced.
Rather than jump into the devastating events of the asteroid hitting Earth right away, ‘Gaugamela’ instead built up the tension a little more as it followed characters who were somewhat on the periphery of the main storyline. Alex and Bobbie shared a nice moment together on the Razorback – now renamed The Screaming Firehawk – as they followed Martian warships and discussed the dying dream their ....

“I think it’s the best thing we’ve done so far,” Wes Chatham, who plays Amos Burton, says of
The Expanse’s fifth season. We agree and we also think Amos’ thrilling, emotional storyline has a lot to do with that success. In season five, we see him pay a long-awaited return visit to Earth, where things…take a turn. ....
