MIAMI (AP) - If you live in Florida, you should probably be paying more for flood insurance. And you likely will be soon.
That first finding is the conclusion of a new analysis by First Street Foundation, a nonprofit research group focused on climate impacts on property value, which found that the majority of Floridians face a higher flood risk than their insurance costs would indicate. ....

Flood insurance spike expected to hit Seacoast NH homeowners hard


PORTSMOUTH  Around the turn of the millennium, Glenn Normandeau assumed ownership of his family’s longtime property, 15 Pickering Ave., and with it took control of the property’s flood insurance plan.
The annual premium paid, Normandeau estimated, is about $500  a benefit that’s been largely underutilized due to few bouts of impactful flooding at his house.
“We’ve never had, knock on wood, thank God, one of these devastation deals where the water is six feet high in the house or anything like that,” he said. “The damages that have happened are mostly sort of a mop-up option. We haven t had a scenario where we’ve had serious structural damage to the buildings or anything like that.” ....

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. A new flood risk rating system could mean the price of protecting your home could soon become much more expensive.
The National Flood Insurance Program covers more than 5 million homeowners across the country and right here on the First Coast. But as sea level rises, so will insurance premiums.

Climate change could place 25,000 more Pennsylvania properties at flooding risk, says new study

An additional 25,122 Pennsylvania properties will be at risk of flooding by 2051 because of climate change, according to new research from First Street Foundation.
A report released on Monday – The Cost of Climate: America’s Growing Floor Risk – projected that the number of properties in Pennsylvania at risk of flooding will grow from about 732,736 today to 757,858 in 30 years.
The report was developed as the Federal Emergency Management Agency has launched the Risk Rating 2.0 initiative to better price flood risk at the individual property level to more accurately reflect the risk of today’s climate rather than climate trends of the past. ....
