Hudson County Democrats will use stimulus bucks to boost their salaries »


JERSEY CITY, N.J. – In time honored political machine tradition, Hudson County’s Democrat-controlled government will use its $130.4 million windfall from the new $1.9 trillion stimulus package passed by Congress to hand out 2.5% salary increases to top county officials.
“The salary increases will go to department heads, the county clerk, board of elections members and others, including the county executive, Tom DeGise, a Democrat who will get a $4,171 raise. DeGise’s salary will rise to $170,997,” Terrence McDonald of NorthJersey.com reported on Thursday.

During a developer-hosted meeting in August seeking community feedback on a development idea, the Jersey City Landmarks Conservancy discovered that Jersey City’s Historic Preservation Office issued a Determination of Significance in February 2020 that 500 Communipaw Ave. did not meet enough of the qualifying criteria to be protected from demolition as a historic structure.
The city’s legal process does not include public notification of the decisions rendered by the Historic Preservation Office. Often, the public does not know there is permission to demolish a building till the wrecking ball arrives. ....

Even though the editorial disagrees with the amendment inserted by state Sen. Nicholas Sacco, D-Hudson, to include official misconduct in the mandatory-minimum sentences that the bill eliminates, you recommend that the governor sign the bill.
I strongly disagree. Your editorial suggests Sacco added the amendment to possibly assist his girlfriend’s son, who is being prosecuted for allegedly having a no-show government job in North Bergen.
In 2014, the Star-Ledger published an article stating that New Jersey was one of the most corrupt states for both legal and illegal corruption. Both major political parties in New Jersey have politicians who have special interests that are not directed toward the common good. ....
