Mark Gubicza, 30.0 Ryne Sandberg faced every one of them during those 10 years, as he played in the All-Star Game each season. Those were all the All-Star appearances of his 16-year, Hall of Fame career. . During the regular season, Sandberg batted .285/.344/.795. He slammed 282 home runs, hitting at least 26 in 5 seasons, with a high of 40. He drove in 1,061 runs, reaching 100 on the nose twice. In 1997, his final season, he played 13 games against American League teams, in which he went 15 for 48, .313, with 5 doubles, plus 3 walks, and had 9 RBI. ....

Sometimes, that shows in free agency there have been seven pitchers to become free agents in the offseason immediately following a Cy Young win. Other times, it’s evident in the return a team gets on a deal, trading away a pitcher who recently won an award. There have been four pitchers to be traded in the offseason immediately following a Cy Young Award. And there have been 29 instances of a pitcher being traded within two seasons of earning the honor, including the offseason after that second season. Blake Snell, who went from the Rays to the Padres two seasons after winning the 2018 American League Cy Young Award, is the most recent. ....
December 18, 2020 As Major League Baseball prepares for 2021, teams are bracing for another season of COVID-19 related financial problems. There will undoubtedly be a smaller-than-usual capacity of fans at ballparks nationwide, and depending on the municipality, there might not be fans at all. Teams are hoping 2021 is not as bad as 2020. According to an analysis by the Tampa Bay Business Journal, the New York Yankees missed over $437 million in expected income. Near the bottom of the list, the Tampa Bay Rays lost only $67 million in expected income. But the pandemic affected the Rays in additional ways, some of which could impair the ability of the team to stay in Tampa Bay. As the Rays recently appeared in the World Series, it is important to explore how the pandemic could impact the long-term sustainability of baseball in Tampa Bay. ....
