The daughter and youngest son of the man who brought professional baseball to Portland in 1994 may not have crossed that line as owners of the Sea Dogs, but in an awful year, they came awfully close.

LOCAL LACONICS: The wonderful clock on exhibit at 434 W. Main street for the benefit of the Lutheran church is a wonderful piece of mechanism. Everyone who has seen it wants to see it again.
THE IONIA SOUVENIR SPOON: One of the fads of the day is the souvenir spoon. Unlike most fads, it has an intrinsic as well as an artistic value. Various souvenir spoons have been seen here lately, but the first that have any local character have just been received by Al. H. Geck. There are two varieties, an orange spoon in bright silver, and a teaspoon with an oxidized handle. Both are of artistic design and workmanship and of sterling silver. Both spoons have a chased bowl, in the center of which appears the word Ionia. The handle contains the word Michigan in relief and at the top is clearly presented the coat of arms of the state. During the War of Independence (1919-21) County Kildare was home to one of the largest internment camps in the country. Thousands of men were imprisoned under emergency law internment without trial. The purpose of internment was to contain people the British authorities felt were a threat, without making charges or having the intent to file any.
On the morning of 21 November 1920 (Bloody Sunday), 14 British intelligence operatives were assassinated by members of Michael Collins’ Squad. Then in the afternoon crown forces opened fire on a crowd at a Croke Park, killing fourteen civilians and wounding 65. That night three republican prisoners were tortured and killed by their captors, the Auxiliaries, in Dublin Castle. As a direct consequence of Bloody Sunday the British authorities began a policy of large-scale arre ....
