On the ballot, a rematch for mayor and nearly 80 candidates competing in 10 city council races, along with a proposition aimed at repealing the police department’s collective bargaining rights and a charter change for city bond projects.

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio municipal election is slated for May 1, the first Saturday in May.
On the ballot will be a rematch between two mayoral candidates, all 10 city council seats, a proposition aimed at repealing the police department’s collective bargaining right and a proposed change to the City Charter.

Five candidates for San Antonio s 2021 mayoral race officially filed to run for office.
Current San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg is seeking a third term. He filed for reelection on Friday, joining Tim Atwood, Ray Basaldua, Denise Gutierrez-Homer and Frank Adam Muniz in running for the highest political power in San Antonio, according to the city s website.

TIM ATWOOD
The 66-year-old teacher filed for the race on Jan. 15. He previously ran for mayor in 2019. Atwood is an Indiana native and has lived in San Antonio for eight years. He earned a bachelor’s in biblical studies from Taylor University and a master’s in Christian education from Indiana’s Huntington University, according to the San Antonio Express-News.
