Print Full-time in-person school is coming back Wednesday for South County families for the first time since the pandemic began. On Wednesday Chula Vista Elementary and Sweetwater Union High will start the new school year. South County districts traditionally start the school year earlier than other local districts. California’s waiver that allowed school districts to do distance learning has expired, so schools are required to provide full-time in-person instruction this new school year, although families can still choose independent or online learning. Many South County students will be returning in-person this week. Although most South County districts reopened last spring at least part time for students, South County school districts were among the last to reopen last school year, partly due to previously high COVID rates in South County. ....
