On May 17, officers responded to a theft call at the 400 block of East Simmons Street, when it was reported that somebody stole a 6-year-old micro mini pot-bellied pig, pictured above. It was announced recently that a new FedEx ground distribution center will locate Weatherford. FedEx officials say that the 30,000 square foot FedEx ground distribution center on Frontage Road in Weatherford is scheduled to open this summer, and will replace the smaller existing ground operation center. The facility will also employ both full and part-time positions, including current employees. The announcement also said current employees located at other FedEx facilities will have the opportunity to transfer to the new Weatherford location if they chose. Officials also say the operation also will contract for package pickup and delivery services with local service provider businesses which hire locally for driver, helper, manager and other positions. ....
A Weatherford man was found guilty of first-degree manslaughter by a judge on Tuesday. The ruling came after a two day bench trial that started on Monday in Custer County District Court. 22-year-old Cole Issac Phillips was convicted of the crime that took place on April 4, 2020 in a home in the 700 block of East College Street in Weatherford, where he shot another man two times after a dispute over marijuana. Phillips would claim during a preliminary hearing last November, and again during testimony at the trial, that he committed the crime out of self-defense. A claim that was hotly disputed by the prosecution. ....
