In April, neighbors of 11 Babbit Way were adamantly against owners Amindabe and Ledir Rodrigues s special permit request for a petting zoo that would also feature horseback rides and pony rides, animal feeding and assorted entertainment activities for children that may even include a water slide.
Abutters complained such activities are already happening at the address, bringing with them noise and traffic that disrupts their neighborhood. After repeating their concerns as they filled the meeting room at town hall on June 16 for a meeting about the continuance of the special permit, the neighbors breathed a collective sigh of relief when selectmen voted to deny the Rodrigues s application. Town counsel Adam Costa said this means the Rodriqueses must now wait two years before reapplying for another such permit.

He s now deputy director of the town s Emergency Management Agency. As such, he manages the 15 volunteer members of the town s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) that has outfitted an emergency shelter trailer with 50 cots and bedding and medical supplies and even a coffee pot for when firefighters need a break during lengthy emergency incidents.
The team also has its own ambulance and a trailer with on-scene lighting to illuminate fire and other emergency scenes at night.
