That’s a 32% increase compared to the same time period in 2020, and politicians as well as community activists are coming up with all kinds of ideas to try to reduce the number of shootings. Everything seems to be on the table with the exception of actually focusing on the city’s most violent offenders. With what needs to be done off the table, some of the ideas that are being floated are getting a little crazy; including a call to action by community groups in Philadelphia who say it’s time that the state start keeping track of all ammunition purchases. ....
Pipe bombs, ammunition and drugs seized in Ireland Top Story April 24, 2021 DUBLIN: Two pipe bombs, gunpowder, ammunition and drugs have been seized in Co Louth, the Garda said. The haul was discovered when gardai investigating organised crime searched a house in Drogheda town at 11pm on Thursday. They discovered 1,100 euro worth of suspected cocaine and 500 euro worth of suspected Alprazolam tablets along with the pipe bombs and a large quantity of firearms ammunition. The scene was cordoned off and a number of houses in the area were evacuated as part of the operation. The Army’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal team was called to the scene and safely removed two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and other material believed to be used in the manufacture of explosives for further detailed examination. ....

The weapons, according to DCI, are suspected to have been sneaked into the country for terror activities by Joyce Muthoni Mwihia and her mother Goretti Mwihia, who hold dual citizenship. The recovered cache of arms and ammunition included an M4 sniper rifle, four pistols, a close-quarter Uzi automatic submachine gun and an assortment of over 3,700 rounds of ammunition of different caliber. “Also recovered in the operation were four pistols and a close quarter Uzi automatic submachine gun, capable of firing over 600 rounds per minute,” DCI said. The two are currently in custody as police seek more time to conduct investigations and allow for a ballistic examination of the cache. ....
